Golfers and friends:
What a beautiful day to play golf—it sure beats staying home or watching TV! Nine of us competed for today’s prize as well as the End-of-Year (EOY) standings at Menifee Country Club’s Palms course. The course was in solid condition, and the greens were slightly above average. Thanks to Dylan the head pro who secured us with tee times.
Here are some highlights:
- Doug and Pete fought through their “pains”—not from age (we all agree age is just a number!)—and played all 18 holes. They were glad to be out and swore they’d play better next time. Doug drank a sugary energy drink, which actually caused low energy in his final holes. He learned the hard way that it didn’t help at all—just plain water with electrolytes will do next time.
- Dave Trimborn blew up on the first hole but bounced back to shoot 85, meeting his goal. Way to recover!
- Mike Finneran returned from Wisconsin after 9 rounds in 10 days. Though he was still recovering and lost some $$ to young guns, he managed to shoot 80 with 30 putts to make up for the loss—not bad for an old guy!
- Farley Warshaw led until the 15th hole, but three double bogeys dropped him to second place. What was going through his mind while Mike calmly parred out?
- Eddie Ewald is deep into baseball, especially since his team is in first place. Unfortunately, his golf didn’t match up—he carded a 105. Padres will catch up and win.
- Tony Barksdale, feeling youthful, played from the blue tees and shot a solid 41 on the front. But with bogeys across the back nine, he posted 45 for a total of 86. His $500 putter didn’t help much—he had 41 putts. Maybe it’s not the putter but the guy swinging it?
- David Thompson, known for his short game, had 35 putts and shot 98. He didn’t win this time, but he’ll bounce back soon.
- Robert Audette chipped in for birdie on the 7th hole—a rare gem! He’s heading to SEDGA in two weeks and needs his handicap verified by officials. Congrats, Robert!Scores and prizes will be posted in website (pcdgc.org) sometime tomorrow. Also pictures will be posted as well.
Unofficial Meeting Recap (Started at 4:23 PM due to lack of quorum)
- Attendance has been lower this year—we welcome your ideas to bring members back!
- Plan to contact AZDGA about a 1-10 Cup and discuss shared issues.
- Website is being updated regularly, but a refresh is in the works.
- Farley suggested splitting the EOY season into two parts:
- Season 1: September to December
- Season 2: February to May
- January will be a bye month with optional fun rounds (e.g., team scrambles).
- Carrying over scores from two-round events is still under discussion. We’ll send a vote to members soon.
- We’re revisiting our standing rules to finalize a plan for 2025–26.
- DT brought up golf software that tracks handicaps. Options:
- $96/year for up to 16 golfers/tournaments (additional golfers = $6 each).
- Or use GameBook, which will also be used with PCDGC.
